2009 Winners!
1st Place

Song: “Superman”
Lyrics: "Superman"
Songwriter: Stacy Duvall
Hometown: Spearfish, South Dakota
Stacy is a mother of two ages two and four and is currently majoring in music education and human services. She is originally from a very small town half an hour away from Spearfish called Sundance, Wyoming. Her song, Superman, was a favorite of all of our judges who gave it high marks for originallity, composition, motherhood theme and lyrics.
"Before my son came along my life was pretty crazy and I wasnt sure exactly where it was going. Then when I was eighteen everything changed. From the first time I looked at my son the uncertainty was gone. It no longer mattered where I had been or what I had seen or done before. From that moment on I knew exactly who I was- his mother.
My kids teach me everday to look at things with an open mind. They believe that they can do and be anything they set there mind to. That is one reason why Kylin is exactly what the song states- my little superman. He and my daughter love music just like me and it is something wonderful that we can share together.
I played "Superman" on my keyboard, guitar, bass guitar, steel guitar, and drum set. I recorded it on my 16 track multitrack recorder in my bedroom. When I was done with the song I handed my three year old son a microphone and put some headphones on him. I told him to go ahead and sing and hit record. Later I just edited it to fit his parts in with the song. We had a lot of fun!
Thank you for choosing my song! It is such an honor and I am so excited! I plan on using the cash award for my music, and something for my son!
Thank you so much!!!
~Stacy Duvall

Song: “The Kids Are Finally Asleep”
Lyrics: "The Kids Are Finally Asleep"
Songwriter: Sue Fabisch
Hometown: Nolensville, Tennessee
Sue Fabisch's song, "The Kids Are Finally Asleep" had some of our judges rolling on the ground in laughter and got many of them up on their feet shouting Hallelujah. One of the most witty songs we received. It is worth noting her other two submissions received high marks too, "Welcome to Motherhood" and "Mommy, Mommy" are a must listen for any parent or caregiver for that matter.
"I wrote the song based on exactly what happens after I put my 3 kids to bed each night. I love them dearly, but by bedtime, I'm exhausted and singing Hallelujah! The song is now part of my new show "Motherhood: The Musical" which is going nationwide in 2010. It's a 90-minute, 4 woman show about being a mom, that will make you laugh, cry and leak! We open in Atlanta in Feb 2010. Go to www.MommyMusic.com for more info. " ~Sue Fabicsh |
